Dr. Robbin Chapman:

· Engages in research that focuses on the intersection of learning by design, new technologies, community, and support structures for learning.

· Develops learning technologies and pedagogy that deepen the ways that people learn.  She is particularly interested in supporting deep learning activities, including meta-learning, critical reflection and thinking, debugging, and learning by design.

· Invents new learning frameworks  Her Cooperative Constructionism framework uses theory and practical applications of individual and group cognition and critical reflection to support design-based learning activities.

Dr. Chapman’s work has been presented at conferences, invited talks, and in two book chapters

Her new book, The Computer Clubhouse: Creativity and Constructionism in Youth Communities, is co-edited by herself, Yasmin Kafai and Kylie Peppler.  Published by Teachers College Press, the book is scheduled for release in spring 2009,

“As a PhD and researcher of learning technologies, I have the unique expertise and experience to understand and evaluate both the technical details of how a new technology will work as well design new ways for technologies to support how people learn and grow learning communities.”

“The research component of Learning Griot has grown out of my dissertation research at MIT.  My current research interests are at the intersection of computation, learning, and community.  I look forward to entering new areas of research in service to my clients.”
